Clamps are fabricated from austenitic stainless steels (such as 201, 301, 304, and 316). While raw steel sheets are non-magnetic in their annealed state, they must undergo heavy cold-rolling to reach the high tensile strengths required for worm-gear operations. This cold mechanical work partially transforms the austenite structure into magnetic martensite. Magnetism is thus a sign of cold-rolled mechanical strength, not quality degradation.
