While premium austenitic stainless steel grades such as 201, 301, 304, and 316 are completely non-magnetic in their soft, solution-annealed state, they must undergo extensive cold-rolling to reach the structural hardness and yield strength required for torque-tightening.

This intensive plastic deformation transforms a portion of the austenite phase into a hard, ferromagnetic martensite structure. Thus, a strong, high-performance clamp will display magnetic properties, proving that the band has been correctly cold-rolled to withstand severe band tensions without yield failure.

The Critical Role of Lubrication & Zinc-Plated Screws

In high-performance clamp assemblies, reducing thread friction is essential to translate torque into radial clamping force. The zinc-galvanized layer applied to carbon steel screws in DIN 3017 and British type clamps acts as an effective solid-state lubricant.

For non-plated or all-stainless configurations, synthetic wax coatings must be applied. However, exposure to high temperatures during transport and storage can dry or degrade these waxes, resulting in increased thread friction, thread galling, and a loss of clamping efficiency. Incoming Raw Material Verification

Mika ensures metallurgical reliability by sourcing raw materials exclusively from major state-owned steel producers. To guarantee uniform performance under dynamic mechanical stress, every incoming coil is tested in our in-house lab before processing.
