It is a common misconception that magnetism in stainless steel indicates low quality. When manufacturing high-tensile components from austenitic alloys (such as 201, 301, 304, and 316), cold rolling is required to achieve the necessary hardness and tensile strength. This process alters the material's microstructure, introducing a magnetic field while maintaining its corrosion resistance.
Standard carbon steel screws rely on a galvanized outer layer for corrosion resistance and thread lubrication. Unplated stainless steel screws often require specialized dry-wax coatings to prevent galling. However, environmental exposure during shipping and storage can degrade these coatings, which is why we recommend high-quality galvanization or custom zinc-nickel platings for critical applications.
