Why Industrial Procurement Officers Specify AISI 316 (UNS S31600) for Extreme Operating Environments
When selecting hose clamps for marine installations, chemical processing equipment, subsea pipes, or cleanrooms, the choice of material is critical. While Standard 304 Stainless Steel offers adequate rust protection in general indoor applications, Grade 316 Stainless Steel is the gold standard for high-chloride and severely corrosive surroundings.
Grade 316 contains 2% to 3% Molybdenum (Mo). This addition significantly increases the alloy’s Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) compared to Grade 304:
PREN = %Cr + 3.3%Mo + 16%N
While 304 has a PREN score around 18-20, Grade 316 registers a PREN of 23-25, guaranteeing high immunity to localized pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in environments with high concentrations of dissolved salt and acids.
Mika (Tianjin) Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd. manufactures W5 (fully 316 SS) and W4 (fully 304 SS) clamps. For industrial settings where failure can lead to catastrophic leaks or downtime, W5 Grade 316 clamps are recommended to secure vital cooling lines, gas conduits, and fuel hoses.
Industrial specifications define the material composition of worm drive and heavy-duty clamps using the German DIN 3017 standards:
A Leading Chinese Manufacturer of Precision Clamping Systems and Connection Technology
Mika (Tianjin) Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd. is located in Tianjin, one of China's four municipalities directly under the central government. Tianjin is a strategic fulcrum of the Maritime Silk Road and the intersection of the "One Belt One Road" initiative, designated as an international integrated transportation hub.
Our founder, Mr. Zhang Di, has nearly 15 years of industry experience, constantly researching connection technology. Under his leadership, our manufacturing capacity has steadily expanded, enabling us to provide reliable, non-leakage sealing products for automotive, military, air intake, exhaust, irrigation, cooling, heating, and drainage systems.
Due to our technical capabilities, refined production processes, and precision tooling center, we offer high cost-performance alongside standardized quality management.
From a Mold Manufacturer to a Multi-Base Global Fastening Enterprise
Founded as a specialized precision tooling maker, laying the technological foundation for accurate clamp dimensions and reliable crimps.
Officially transformed into a professional connection technology manufacturer, producing high-performance hose clamps.
Established direct supply relationships with domestic automotive OEMs, including GM Wuling, China FAW, BYD, and Changan.

How Mika Pipeline Solutions Secure Fluid Connections Across Global Industries
Saltwater causes rapid crevice corrosion on standard fasteners. Our W5 Grade 316 Stainless Hose Clamps provide long-term service on marine engine cooling systems, exhaust setups, and offshore rigs without failing.
Transferring corrosive liquids and volatile hydrocarbons requires secure connection systems. The addition of Molybdenum in 316 stainless steel prevents localized pitting caused by acidic fumes and chemical washdowns.
Sanitation requirements mandate frequent washdowns with aggressive chemicals. Mika's 316 clamps resist aggressive cleaning agents while keeping connections clean and contaminant-free.
We supply OEMs like GM Wuling and BYD with constant torque and spring-loaded exhaust clamps designed to handle thermal expansion cycle loads, vibration, and high temperatures.
Mika's high-strength clamping systems are built to meet rigorous military specifications, ensuring mechanical performance and seal integrity under extreme shock loads.
Whether for municipal drainage or large-scale agricultural irrigation, our industrial worm gear and U-clamps provide leak-free performance, even when buried in soil or exposed to UV radiation.
Essential Engineering Guidelines for Pipeline and Fastener Procurement
Many procurement teams use magnets to test stainless steel quality, assuming magnetism indicates lower quality. In reality, the opposite is true for finished clamps. Clamps are manufactured from austenitic grades (201, 301, 304, 316) that are non-magnetic in their soft, annealed state.
However, to meet standard requirements for hardness and tensile strength, the raw material must undergo a cold-rolling process. This mechanical compression changes some austenite crystals into magnetic martensite, generating a magnetic field. This magnetism confirms the clamp was hardened for mechanical duty, rather than remaining soft and prone to slippage.
In worm gear hose clamps, friction between the screw thread and the band slot can reduce the conversion of installation torque to actual band tension. To address this, the galvanized finish on carbon steel screws serves as a lubricant.
For stainless steel screws in DIN3017 clamps, we recommend a thin galvanized coating for lubrication. While dry wax compounds can be used, they are prone to drying out or evaporating during transport and storage in hot environments. Galvanization ensures reliable tightening torque, even after long-term storage.
Spring-loaded T-bolt clamps are designed for charge air, turbocharger, and vehicle coolant systems. The integrated spring compensates for hose expansion and contraction caused by thermal cycles.
Warning: During installation, do not tighten the locknut until the spring is completely compressed. Overtightening removes the spring's ability to absorb thermal movement, turning it into a solid spacer. This can lead to excessive tension during operation, damaging both the hose and the connection fittings.
At Mika, we utilize rigorous testing procedures to ensure that every shipment conforms to international pipeline standards. Our facility includes a complete tool and die center, allowing our engineers to adjust dimensions and tolerances for custom OEM specifications.
We source our raw steel from premier domestic manufacturers. Every inbound coil undergoes a full spectroscopic chemistry audit, tensile strength tests, and hardness checks. Approved batches are then moved to our climate-controlled material warehouse.
Our quality assurance program is certified to IATF 16949:2016 standards, ensuring high precision for demanding automotive and industrial applications.
