1. The Reality of Stainless Steel Magnetism

A common quality check in the field is using a magnet to test stainless steel quality. The assumption is that if it displays magnetic attraction, the material is low grade. However, the opposite is often true for high-strength clamps.

Most clamps are formed from austenitic stainless steels like AISI 201, 301, 304, or 316. While these materials are non-magnetic in their soft, annealed state, they undergo cold-working to reach the hardness and tensile strengths required for pipeline clamping.
