These standard designations define the metallurgy of the clamp components:
• W1: All components (band, housing, screw) are galvanized carbon steel.
• W2: The band and housing are stainless steel (typically 201 or 304), while the screw is zinc-plated carbon steel.
• W4: All components are made of AISI 304 (A2) stainless steel. This is the industry standard for standard chemical and automotive environments.
• W5: All components are made of marine-grade AISI 316 (A4) stainless steel, offering maximum resistance to salt spray and acids.
This is a natural result of the manufacturing process. While raw 304/316 stainless steel is austenitic and non-magnetic, it undergoes significant strain-hardening during cold-rolling.
