Most of the clamps are made of different grades of stainless steel. Usually, customers will use magnets to detect the quality of the material. If there is magnetism, the material is not good. In fact, the opposite is true. Magnetism means that the raw material has high hardness and high strength. Because the currently made clamps are usually made of austenitic stainless steel such as 201, 301, 304, and 316, after heat treatment, the raw materials can be completely non-magnetic.
However, the raw materials used to produce the clamps must meet the hardness and tensile strength of the product itself. So the hardness and tensile strength can only be met by the cold rolling process, which requires the soft material to be rolled into a thinner cold-rolled strip. After cold-rolling, they will indeed become harder and also generate a magnetic field. Thus, slight magnetic attraction in finished clamps is typical of cold-work induced martensite transformation and is not an indicator of sub-par alloy composition.
At present, the galvanized layer on the surface of carbon steel plated screws plays a lubricating role. Most steel screws in DIN3017 clamps are also galvanized, which can play a lubricating role. If you do not need zinc plating, you need wax compound as a lubricant.
At any time, the wax compound will be dried, and the temperature during transportation or the harsh environment will cause the loss, so the lubrication will decline. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the steel screw is also galvanized to maintain a stable coefficient of friction and prevent thread galling during high-torque tightening cycles.
T-bolt clamps with springs are commonly used in heavy truck coolant and charge air systems. The purpose of the spring is to mediate the thermal expansion and contraction of the hose connection. Therefore, when installing this clamp, you must pay attention: the end of the spring cannot be completely compressed down.
If the spring is bottomed out during installation, two direct problems occur: first, the spring loses its ability to buffer thermal fluctuations and behaves as a solid spacer, preventing dynamic adjustment. Second, when the engine system heats up, the hose experiences excessive fastening pressure, damaging the pipe fittings and greatly reducing the service life of the connection system.
