Demystifying Stainless Steel Magnetism

A common misconception is that magnetism indicates inferior material quality. In truth, high-performance austenitic stainless steel grades (such as 201, 301, 304, and 316) exhibit mild magnetic properties after cold rolling. While heat treatment eliminates magnetism, the high tensile strength and band hardness required for premium clamps are achieved only through extensive cold working. This process alters the metallurgical micro-structure, introducing magnetic properties while enhancing performance.

For carbon steel plated screws in DIN3017 clamps, the galvanized layer acts as a dry lubricant. If non-galvanized configurations are used, synthetic wax compounds must be applied. To prevent thread galling and torque inconsistencies, we recommend galvanized steel screws or premium coating treatments.
