Raw Material Magnetism Myths

Many buyers use magnets to assess the quality of stainless steel. There is a common assumption that if a clamp is magnetic, the steel quality is low. However, the opposite is often true.

Our hose clamps are constructed from austenitic grades like 201, 301, 304, and 316. While these materials are non-magnetic after initial heat treatment, the raw strips must be cold-rolled to meet the tensile strength required for high-pressure clamping. This cold-rolling process induces a partial phase transformation (martensite formation), which naturally makes the finished steel strip harder, stronger, and magnetic.

Effective thread engagement requires proper lubrication to minimize friction and prevent galling. Galvanization on carbon steel screws serves as an integrated solid lubricant. For unplated stainless steel screws, wax compounds are used instead.
